When your neighbor is in need, you help. So when members of Southeastern Fellowship Golf Association (SFGA) saw the jar with a handwritten note ‘Contribution for NC Flood Victims’ in western counties on the registration table members chipped in. SFGA donated a tournament at Cypressess Lakes GC last week and again this week at Land-O’Lakes GC. Members realized the extent of devastation Hurricane Helene wreaked on western North Carolina.
Galvanized by knowledge of how hurricanes have historically impacted southeastern North Carolina, the SFGA community responded with donations. $1000 was raised. This money went to purchases based on requests from churches, and volunteer fire departments in the impacted communities. The list of our purchases include: chain saw oil, mixed gas, brush hand saws, batteries, cans of soup, vegetables, cereal, Gatorade, cleaning spray, trash bags, socks, winter caps, work gloves, blankets, hoodies, insulted long underwear, ponchos, and more. The items were dropped off by Rob Conway, LR Odham, and John Blake at a collection point in Whiteville. Black’s Tires and other volunteer groups have partnered to sort, label, and box items. These boxes were wrapped and loaded on pallets to fill delivery trucks. Local drivers have made many trips with supplies to pickup locations in western NC. These pickup locations include volunteer fire departments, churches, and a middle school in the impacted areas. Areas on the list include Asheville, Canton, Waynesville, Linville, West Jefferson, Maggie Valley, Boone, Spruce Pines, Clyde, and Shelby.
A super response from the members and the committee that organized and distributed the goods. Well done 👍
